Trend: Skirts and Cropped Tops + Game of Thrones S04E07

I am a big fan of midi skirts. I found them very girly and classy at the same time. The current trend is to wear skirts with cropped tops. My preference is to wear cropped tops with midi skirts, even though they can be combined with maxi skirts too.

Here are some of my shopping choices for midi skirts. Bright colours such as chartreuse or yellow are on trend.

I really like the last episode of Game of Thrones. Below are some of the episode’s highlights. I will provide some background information from the books that was not made clear or revealed at all in the show.

Melisandre -Selyse Baratheon: When I first saw both of them in their scene, I thought they were going to have sex. I am not sure if anybody else felt that way, or is it just me? I could also see that Selyse is envious / jealous of Melisandre. Their conversation revealed something interesting about Shireen Baratheon: Melisandre wants her to come with them because the Lord of Light might need her later on. Melisandre has an obsession with king’s blood, and she was hoping to have Gendry sacrificed last season. Basically, her intentions concerning Shireen are not good.   Selyse is clearly a little bit crazy (not at the level of Cersei or Lysa Arryn yet). She is also a religious zealot (the same applies to Melisandre). Basically, it is easy to convince Selyse to have her own daughter sacrificed. However, Stannis loves his daughter, and so far he has not shown signs of religious  zealotry. What this scene reveals is that Shireen has a very important role in the future (it has not been revealed in the books yet). At the same time, I just want to point out that Shireen is a survivor of Greyscale, a lethal disease in adults. Basically, Greyscale is the fantasy equivalent of the medieval Black Death, and TV viewers will learn more about it as the show progresses. It has been speculated by book readers that Greyscale might decimate Westeros at certain point, especially in the South. Greyscale petrifies the body.

Lysa Arryn: The actress portraying her has done a great job. I realized that she was a little bit odd in the first season (that was before reading the books). Why is she like that? Basically Lysa was always attracted to Littlefinger, who was a ward at House Tully. However, he was interested in Catelyn. When Littlefinger became aware of Catelyn’s betrothal to Brandon Stark, he decided to challenge Brandon in a duel. Of course, Brandon beat him and Littlefinger was left in a very bad shape. It is good to remember Lysa’s description of Brandon Stark: handsome, arrogant, and cruel (I believe he was the first two- I do not think he was cruel). While Littlefinger was recovering on bed, Lysa came to him and had sex with him. As a result, she became pregnant, and her father, Hoster Tully, was not happy about that. He made her abort the baby. This is probably one of the reasons why she gave birth to one child – she was known to have complicated pregnancies (miscarriages and stillbirths). In the books, the singer Marillion was present when Littlefinger pushed Lysa out of the moon door. Littlefinger framed Marillion as the killer. Who will be framed in the TV show? I have read comments of book readers suggesting excuses such as she slipping on a banana peel (hilarious).

Tyrion: I love his interaction with Jaime, Bronn, and Oberyn Martell. I think both Peter Dinklage (Tyrion) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) are great. Of course, Peter Dinklage is very expressive (so Tyrion) and Nikolaj is very subtle in expressing emotions (a hard thing to do when acting). The scene with Oberyn was the best. When Oberyn offers himself to be his champion at the trial by combat, Tyrion’s face is relieved and his eyes became watery.

Game of Thrones S04E07 – Tyrion and Oberyn

Tyrion is hated not just because he was born a dwarf, but also because his mother died giving birth to him. His mother was Joanna Lannister, a cousin of Tywin. It is mentioned often that Tywin really loved her. However, he pushes his kids to be in marriages out of duty which is very unfair. Joanna Lannister was a friend of Oberyn’s mother, the Princess of Dorne, and they wanted their kids to get married (Elia to Jaime, Cersei to Oberyn). This was the reason why Oberyn and Elia went to Casterly Rock. However, Tywin rejected Elia for Jaime, and offered her Tyrion instead (remember that Joanna was dead at that time). Tywin even mentioned that Cersei was destined for Rhaegar Targaryen. The Princess of Dorne did not like that. As a result, she went to Aerys Targaryen to propose a marriage between Elia and Rhaegar. Of course, Tywin took this event (and another event that I will discuss in the future) very personally. I am totally convinced that he wanted Elia raped and dead during the sack of King’s Landing (because in his eyes Cersei was better even though she is very trashy). The show has deviated a little bit from this story. According to TV  Oberyn, he went to Casterly Rock with his father.

For those who are impressed with Chilean actor, Pedro Pascal (Oberyn Martell), there are hints that more Latin or Spanish actors will be casted for the fifth season. In fact Spain is being considered to be a new location for next season. George R.R. Martin himself has taken Moorish Spain as an inspiration for the Kingdom of Dorne.

Game of Thrones Eyes Spain

Casting for the fifth season has started and here is the list of characters that are in the process of being casted. The list is not complete yet. There are few characters that still need to be added or probably have been casted. Three Sand Snakes are on the list.

Season Five Casting

Next week I would continue with my fashion update since there will not be any Game of Thrones update, but if I hear some news, I will gladly post them.
