Since the weather is getting nicer and the days are getting sunnier, it would be great to get a new pair of sunglasses. Mirrored sunglasses has been a major trend since last summer.
Here are my top shopping choices.
I am not a big fan of mirrored sunglasses. I am still a big fan of cat-eyed sunnies since they look great on my face.
Regarding the last episode of Game of Thrones, The Laws of Gods and Men, here are my speculations based on my favourite scenes.
- Varys: He mentions that the Hound has been seen in the Riverlands especially after the inn’s incident. Does he know that Arya is with the Hound? First, the Hound is pretty recognizable – he has a hideous scar and is very tall. He is also well-known for his fighting skills. Arya Stark is the opposite – she is wearing a boy’s attire as opposed to a lady’s dress and the last time she was seen by Varys she had long hair. He might suspect something but the information would not be considered reliable. The interesting thing is that Varys withheld the information that the Hound was travelling with a kid (that makes it suspicious to me). Going back to the second season, there was this scene in which Littlefinger and Tywin met at Harrenhal, and it seems that Littlefinger was able to recognize Arya. If he did, he withheld this information too from the Lannisters. He revealed to Sansa that he had seen Arya in S03E01. Did he lie about this to gain Sansa’s trust? Did the inn keeper and his daughter told one of Varys’ little birds all the details? Did they say that the Hound killed three men and that his companion killed two? I guess this is something that the Lannisters would like to hear and put things together. There are also many people that know that she is alive: members of the Brotherhood without Banners, Gendry, Hot Pie and probably Melisandre. Information would have leaked especially from anybody from the Riverlands.
- Varys – Oberyn: Their little conversation ends up with Varys staring at the Iron Throne. For the non-reader, this is very puzzling. It signifies that he wants the throne for himself. The only explanation might be that he is a Blackfyre supporter or a Blackfyre himself. It has also been theorized that he is not a Blackfyre descendant but a descendant of Aerion Targaryen (Brightflame), the mad and cruel prince who drank a cup of wildfire hoping to become a real dragon. He has been mentioned in the TV show very likely for foreshadowing purposes. Information about House Blackfyre can be found in two of my previous posts: Bran Stark’s Plot Line for Season 4 – Who is the Three-Eyed Raven? and Who is the Three-Eyed Raven? Part 2. If you are a book reader and are familiar with the Dunk and Egg series, Aerion Brightflame was Egg’s brother. There is a good theory at Westeros.org that states that Varys is a descendant of Aerion Brightflame, and his partner in crime, Illyrio Mopatis, is a Blackfyre descendant on the female line. If you are a book reader or want to get spoiled, here is the link (be ready for a good read): The Brightfyre Theory. I will get back to this theory later on once the show introduces a new Targaryen pretender.
- Jaime: He is a very conflicted character. He knows that Tyrion is innocent and he is willing to do everything to protect his life. This shows how much he loves and cares for Tyrion. The cost of this is giving up Cersei and the Kingsguard, and marrying somebody to continue the Lannister line. Obviously he cares about his family – especially when it comes to Tyrion. At the same time, he is distancing himself from Tywin and Cersei since they want to get rid off Tyrion. His situation is very similar to Tyrion. For everybody else, they are both kingslayers. One is guilty, the other one is innocent. Even though they both saved King’s Landing, people would always consider Jaime an oath breaker and Tyrion a dwarf.
- Daenerys: She did a great job when dealing with the shepherd that lost his sheep. She was so proud of herself and you could see how the actress showed that feeling in her face. Everything changed when Hizdahr zo Loraq comes to request his father’s body for burial. According to him, his father was a good slaver who opposed the crucifixion of the slave children. However, Daenerys crucified all the slavers without taking into consideration Barristan’s advice from Episode 5. She did a big mistake and she has made enemies in Mereen who would make it hard for her to rule. The point is that Daenerys has to learn that not all of the ursuper’s dogs (Baratheon, Lannister, Stark) are guilty of House Targaryen’s downfall. Mereen will be a learning experience for her. Will she learn to rule? I believe she would be very emotional and passionate when it comes to ruling. She will need a good advisor, and it is very likely that she will get the best politician ever in The Winds of Winter.
- Davos: He is one of the few honourable and very nice characters of the series. He is a point of view character in the books. Most readers including me thought initially that his chapters were boring. However, his story becomes progressively interesting. Being a lowborn, he is an admirable character compared to many highborn characters. Even though it was a deviation from the books, his speech to acquire a loan from the Iron Bank was great, using as as setup Tywin’s possible desmise. Davos is portrayed as somebody with great social skills, something that Stannis lacks. Davos is able to influence and convince people.
- Tyrion: I think Peter Dinklage will get another Emmy. Here is his confession, an awesome scene: Tyrion’s Confession at Joffrey’s Murder Trial. At this point, the viewer cannot tell if Shae was coerced in her testimony against both Tyrion and Sansa. It could be that she wanted to take revenge against Tyrion for his rejection of her. Last season Tyrion told her he loved her, and that his marriage to Sansa was loveless. He told her that he would provide for her and any kid he fathered on her. Basically, Shae is very bitter now about her relationship with Tyrion. I guess she was coerced by both Tywin and Cersei to testify against Sansa. When it comes to Tyrion, I think she just wanted to ruin him.
- Yara: Her plot line for this season is a deviation from the books. Yara (Asha in the books) never goes to the Dreadfort to rescue Theon. I think this plot line was a poor addition. However, its purpose was to show how broken Theon is. It is painful to see the terror in his eyes. In the books the reader does not see the process in which Theon becomes Reek but the end result. Theon is a point of view character in the second book of A Song of Ice and Fire, A Clash of Kings. Readers really start to hate him in this book for betraying Robb. He is then mentioned by Roose Bolton in the third book, A Storm of Swords, and you do not hear him about him until the fifth book, A Dance with Dragons, in which a character by the name of Reek is introduced. Theon’s story in A Dance with Dragons is very sad and the reader starts to pity him. However, Theon will recover his identity again and will meet his sister again later on.
Next post will be about bright colours for the summer.
